About Michelle

Afrikaans is my home language and took Afrikaans as my home language at school up until grade 9. Since grade 10 I took Afrikaans first additional language up until grade 12. I achieved a 92% for Afrikaans first additional language in grade 12 with 72% for English as my home language.

I am a qualified teacher who studied Afrikaans at Tertiary level. I am extremely passionate about teaching languages and hope to deepen learners understanding of it. I have also taught the above subjects as a student-teacher and tutor between 2016 and 2020.

I have worked with many learners from all grades in primary and high school and have shown them that Afrikaans can actually be fun! I especially encourage older students to watch Afrikaans programs (like 7de Laan!) which helps us use the language in a more stress-free environment!

I taught mainstream up to grade seven and LSEN (Learners with special educational needs) for more than 40 years. I thus have a remedial background too. Remedial work was also done with learners from mainstream classes in Afrikaans and English.

I achieved 92% for Afrikaans First Additional Language in matric, so I can assist if you need help with comprehension, reading, writing as well as language.

I am excellent at Afrikaans and the language. I have tutored many friends that were failing this subject at school to helping them excel in their tests and exams!

My experience has shown that texts prescribed for Afrikaans tend not to interest students. As a South African language, finding resources and ways to expose learners to the subject is easy and creates an immersive environment - ideal for second additional language learners.
